Delhi Developer’s JioHotstar Domain Purchase Aims to Fund Cambridge Studies

In anticipation of a Jio and Hotstar merger, a Delhi-based developer acquired the JioHotstar domain with a unique purpose. They initially set a Rs 1 crore price for it, hoping it could fund their Cambridge University tuition. The developer explained, “I purchased this domain after hearing about the merger. If the merger goes through, it could help me achieve my dream of studying at Cambridge.”

Reliance’s Legal Threat Over Domain Ownership

Reliance, the parent company of Jio, quickly issued a legal warning, alleging that the developer’s actions infringed on their intellectual property. Declining the developer’s offer, Reliance accused them of misuse of the JioHotstar brand and prepared for legal action. The developer denied any wrongdoing, stating, “JioHotstar didn’t exist” when they acquired the domain in 2023, and expressed openness to legal assistance.

With mounting legal tension, ownership of the JioHotstar domain changed hands, now belonging to two siblings from Dubai, Jainam and Jivika. The new homepage introduces their mission, featuring a message, “Welcome to Our Journey of Seva,” followed by their goal to spread positivity and connect with children around the world.
